Connecticut Fair Housing Center

Fair Housing Specialist
 New Haven and Bridgeport areas

The Connecticut Fair Housing Center is a statewide nonprofit organization which promotes fair housing enforcement and advocacy with offices in Hartford and New Haven.  The Center operates a statewide fair housing program with a focus on major metropolitan areas including Hartford, New Haven, and Bridgeport. The Fair Housing Specialist to be hired will work out of the New Haven office.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Conducting investigations of complaints received, including recruitment and training of testers;

  • Conducting community outreach to provide information about fair housing rights, gain support for the project, and recruit fair housing testers;

  • Setting up and conducting fair housing workshops and trainings;

  • Maintaining individual case files and records; preparing monthly and quarterly statistical and narrative activity reports;

  • Working with Fair Housing Center staff and others to provide support and advocacy for people faced with housing discrimination

  • Working collaboratively with other fair housing programs and initiatives to promote fair housing.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Services or related field or equivalent experience;

  • Demonstrated interest in combating housing discrimination;

  • Fair housing and/or housing related experience preferred;

  • Experience working in diverse communities, preferably in Connecticut area;

  • Ability to coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously;

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team;

  • Strong written and verbal skills;

  • Available to attend evening and weekend meetings;

  • Access to reliable transportation;

  • Excellent computer skills; and

  • Bi-lingual English/Spanish preferred.

Salary:  Mid twenties to low thirties DOE plus excellent benefits
